Memory and Perception: Winter National Juried Exhibition

  • Marin Museum of Contemporary Art 500 Palm Drive Novato, CA United States (map)

Philip Guston said: “Painting is a kind of war between the moment and the pull of memory.” All artists integrate their life experiences into their artwork, integrating what they see and sense in the present with their memories of the past. That is what makes every artwork unique and valuable to the viewer. Anais Nin understood that the lens through which reality is perceived is shaped by the beholder, “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

The MarinMOCA National Juried Exhibition series gives artists from across the country the opportunity to show their work at a professional, established venue, and gives visitors to MarinMOCA the opportunity to see a wide variety of artworks by contemporary American artists.
